The author describes this as ‘another embroidery book containing more reversible and Holbein, as well as non-reversible blackwork patterns; borders, medallions, darning patterns and many projects for your enjoyment.’ As this implies, the focus in this book is on design elements (mostly ones that can be stitched reversibly) which are a natural progression from working standard filling patterns. The filling patterns in this book are somewhat more challenging than those in Book I. The spot motifs (medallions) included are drawn from historic samplers, mainly Spanish in origin. The 15 borders are drawn from a wide variety of sources. An excellent section on pattern darning is included at the end of the book – one of the best on this relatively neglected aspect of blackwork embroidery, in my opinion.
Spiral Bound Book; 105pp. 1981. Second printing, illustrated in black and white.
