Series of 12 Beaded Blackwork Designs by Leon Conrad

This series of 12 designs draws on traditional patterns from the 16th to the 19th centuries, and is richly executed in black and gold using a variety of different blackwork threads and golden beads.

They are ideal to stitch into a group hanging, make up into Christmas Tree ornaments, decorate a Christmas table runner, or frame up individually to hang on the wall all year round.

The designs are all between 55 to 60 stitches square. Worked mainly over two threads on 32 count evenweave linen, these designs will come out at around 10 cm (c. 4 inches) square.

This is the first in this series of twelve designs. The rich blackwork design bursts out like a star with hearts and flowers in it. It is worked in Ebony Collection Silk Threads on 32 count Linen. Mill Hill Beads add a touch of luxury to the finished design.

This is the ninth in this series of twelve designs. This is a traditional design, which combines a central cross with two different floral shaped motifs. This is the only design in the series to include a few Cross Stitches as embellishment within the central cross. It is worked in Ebony Collection Silk Threads on 32 count Linen. Mill Hill Beads and Madeira Holographic Jewel Thread give that extra bit of luxury to finish off this design.

Blackwork Hearts' Ease by Leon Conrad

This is the penultimate design in this series of twelve. The four central hearts in this design are the inspiration behind the name. This was a design I had some fun with, hiding space rockets and pawnbrokers' signs within the traditional foliate motifs and Elizabethan filling patterns. It is worked in Ebony Collection Silk Threads on 32 count Linen. Gold Mill Hill Seed and Petite Beads embellish the shapes in this design.

Blackwork Fantasye by Leon Conrad

This is the last in this series of twelve designs. An assymetric rotation gives this design a visually pleasing quality of movement to it. Although still traditional in feel, this design is one of the most interesting and contemporary in feel of all this series, and my personal favourite It is worked in Ebony Collection Silk Threads on 32 count Linen. As with the other designs in this series, Mill Hill Beads are used to give an extra sparklet to the finished design.
