. An Introductory Project to 'Round and Round the Garden'
This little design is an easy way to learn about the stitches and techniques used in Leon's Round and Round and Round the Garden cushion project, featured in The Essential Guide to Embroidery. Inspired jointly by Elizabethan blackwork designs and designs of the 1930s English Blackwork Revial, this project is a tribute to two great periods of English embroidery.
The seeding within the central leaves is optional - suggestions for alternative treatments are given within the instructions for this project.
The design is worked on 36 count linen, and the kit comes with the design pre-drawn on the fabric.
The design is stitched using just 1 strand of silk thread throughout - the variety of shading and line thickness in the design comes from using different stitches used (including straight line stitches, stem outline stitch, whipped stem outline stitch, pekinese stitch and seeding) as well as different densities of blackwork filling pattern.
