The Snowflake Series
A Series of 12 Blackwork Style Designs in Colour using Space Dyed Thread by Leon Conrad
This series of 12 geometric designs are loosely based on the variation and symmetry of snowflake patterns, interpreted in four-fold symmetry for lovers of fine needlework.
The series is worked on 14 count Rainbow Aida which is shot through with sparkly, multi-coloured threads. This is set off by the fine lacy effect of blackwork style designs in colour, using space dyed cotton threads in 2 thicknesses and 3 colours from South African company, House of Embroidery.
The designs are all between 48 to 52 stitches square. These designs will come out at around 12 cm (c. 5 inches) in diameter.
The designs are stitched using a combination of Double Running or Holbein Stitch and Running Back Stitch. They are not charted or designed to be stitched reversibly.
These designs are currently available in four formats:
(1) As individual thread packs containing chart and threads
(2) As individual kits containing chart, thread, fabric and needle
(3) As a pack of 6 charts with materials sufficient to stitch 1 design
(4) Add-on Kit packs.
The first six in this series of 12 designs were released in July 2002 at the Charlotte trade show in the US.
Sparkling Snow Dust by Leon Conrad This is the first in this series of twelve designs. A simple evocation of gently falling snow adding layer to layer in the early hours of a crisp, winter morning. THREAD PACK: £5.00/$8.00

Snowdrop by Leon Conrad This is the second in this series of twelve designs. As the snowdrops peep up through the blanket of snow, so a burst of hope and freshness rises in our hearts. This feeling of hope and the promise of spring were the inspiration for this design. THREAD PACK: £5.00/$8.00

The sparkling rays of starlight reflected off snow illuminate the gardens and parks and create a a magical starry wonderland on earth. In this design, the four-fold symmetry of a star is reflected in the outer border pattern, refracting and reflecting divine light.
